Colleagues: Gazi and I are working on Oenin (structure attached). It is a
component of red wine. We are frustrated by the fact that it elutes as a smear
from reversed phase SepPaks. We have eluted the SepPaks with water, 5, 10, 15,
20, 60 and 100% methanol, and the % of Oenin in the fractions is 1, 3, 5, 22,
39, 30 and 0.1 %, respectively. Can anyone suggest why it elutes as a smear?
Also, suggestions about other SepPak phases that we can try will be
appreciated.

Hmmm, might be a pH-related phenomenon, given that charged oxygen in the
structure⦠If you can control the pH of the elution solutions by adding say
0.1% formic acid (i.e. ~pH2) you might get a more defined peak of elution.
