Hi Christine,
You can make up the calibration solution according the recipe found in the
Getting Started Guide for your instrument. However, I had a quick look at the
Fusion getting started guide and I didn’t see the recipe there. Both the Elite
and Fusion Guides list the same Pierce part numbers for the commercial calmix,
88323. So the formulation in the Elite guide should work at least up to the
Fusion. If you have the latest orbitrap model, check the Getting Started Guide
to see if they use a different calmix than 88323. If not the below will work.
They also list two additional components for negative mode calmix 88324. Below
is for positive mode calmix.
You can download the Getting Started Guide for the Orbitrap Elite and in
section 3 they have a complete protocol for making up the calmix solution.
(tools.thermofisher.com/content/sfs/manuals/Orbitrap-Elite-Getting-Started.pdf)
I usually make it up from scratch since it’s more cost effective that way and I
have compared my home made calmix with that from Pierce and they are identical
on my instrument (Orbitrap Elite).
Shopping list for positive mode calmix:
Ultramark 1621 Mass Spec Std. Cat.# L16698, Alfa Aesar
Butylamine 99%, Cat.# L03575, Alfa Aesar
MRFA, 5mg Cat.# M1170-5MG, Sigma
Caffeine, Cat.# C0750-5G, Sigma
Solvents to make up the solutions are high purity HPLC or LC/MS grade.
Best regards,
Brian

Hello All,
It seems like there is a big backorder for anything, e.g. the positive ion
mode Calmix (for the Thermo instrument calibration). What is everyone doing
about this? Do you have good alternatives?
Thank you,
