The reason excel is used so much is its ubiquity, hence, easy to share data
with core customers or others - and its ease of use. Not sure how I would get
a MaxQuant results output into a database let alone share it with anyone. With
a spreadsheet it's easy peasy.
In this case all that is needed to correct the problem is to correctly format
the column as text instead of as a date. A trivial fix compared to switching
to a database format that few bench scientists know anything about.
